It is said that Mataelehaʻamea had a war with Vaea, (not his brother but the Tuʻi Haʻatakalaua), yet still married a daughter of him.

His younger brother Vuna was sent away to become governor of Vavaʻu.

Another younger brother, Hafoka became governor for central Tongatapu. He founded a new clan, the Haʻa Havea lahi, which in due time would become bitter opponents of the original Tuʻi Kanokupolu clan. FOKI
